Announcing "Cut Loose": an Uncut.fm Podcast!
Conversations with podcasters on their creative process
I spoke to you last week about community.
Over the past few months, I've spent my days doing the "manual" work of building community — I've engaged in conversations with all kinds of independent creators, from Gen Z comedians who want to make creativity a career to that classic "two guys and a mic" just blowing off some steam. I've spoken to hosts transfixed by the paranormal and a new generation of faith-based podcasters — one of the fastest growing podcast segments in this country. I've interviewed people solving murders and others using the format as a kind of TV show, without the words.
The sheer breadth of these conversations has me convinced we're at a really exciting moment in audio. One where what used to be this kind of Brooklyn centric, New York-based thing — in the style of "Serial" or "This American Life" — has inspired people all across the country, and across the world, to soundproof their closets and give us slices of life we may not have had access to before.
These conversations transfix and inspire me. But what good are they if they stay recorded — even painstakingly so — in the annals of an internal CRM software?
A few months into building Uncut.fm, it's obvious to both me and the team that if we want to establish trust with our users, we need to feel the creator's pain alongside them. So, what's it like to launch drop another bucket into the proverbial ocean of 2M+ shows? To launch on Spotify, wait patiently for the Apple gods to deem you worthy, throw up on Instagram account and extract the golden nuggets for Twitter?
Let's find out.
This week we're announcing the release of "Cut Loose": a podcast all about creativity and the battle that is showing up for your art every single day. My goal is to let you eavesdrop on the conversations I'm having with our creators and give you insight into what we call today's quote unquote "creator economy." If you're a creative person, whether you're a writer or comedian or musician or a fellow podcaster — and whether you're just starting out or at the height of your game — I hope you'll learn as much as I have.
Our pilot episode, released Tuesday, features Amelia Rose. Her show is called "C'est La Me" — a play on words from the French phrase, "C'est La Vie." She's what you would call a Gen Z creator: young, in her early twenties, living in her home state of Alabama and just at the cusp of figuring this whole life thing out.
(Do we ever really figure this whole life thing out?)
Anyway, I really enjoyed our conversation and I hope you will, too. Stay tuned for our second episode Tuesday morning: where I talk with the Canadian podcaster Judd Dowhy about reading obituaries.
(Perhaps the answer to my above question lies somewhere in Judd's RSS feed.)
Until next time,
Alicia
(P.S. If you enjoyed this post, will you give it a like by pressing the “heart” button below? I'm trying to beat Carlos in attention and views. 😉 Thanks! )
Thank you so much for having me on! I really enjoyed it!
Hello Alicia/Carlos/team,
Thanks for doing what you're doing with such passion and sharing the journey with us all.
I might have missed that information, so my apologise if it's already been answered, but is there a way to onboard with uncut.fr as part of the beta podcasters / testers ?
Thx !
