It's time for podcasters to embrace Web3!
Our mission at Uncut.fm is to help podcasters seamlessly transition their podcast to Web3.
Podcasters have been overlooked in the Web3 revolution. The world saw an explosion of NFTs in 2021 but the audio space is still full of untapped potential. As podcasters ourselves, we’ve been super frustrated to see a lot of new startups creating blockchain projects for artists, musicians, and photographers, but nothing for podcasts!
Podcasters who ignore Web3 are not only missing out on one of the most exciting technical and cultural revolutions to date: they’re leaving money on the table. So we decided to create our own platform to help podcasters jump on this new opportunity.
We aim to build a new podcasting economy—a world where hosts can use the blockchain to value their work in entirely new ways and build stronger connections with their listeners.
Since there have been slight (but exciting) changes to what our Uncut.fm player will look like recently, I wanted to give you this quick product update so you are aware re: what we've been cooking behind the scenes, and our next steps as we are approaching our first podcast NFT drops!
OK, here's the deal:
The Uncut.fm player is no longer meant to be your destination for listening to an entire episode. You have Apple and Spotify for that, and we've learned (shout out to @Judd one of our Uncut podcaster in residence) that Uncutting every moment and thinking carefully about how to visually illustrate every little thing you say can feel cumbersome. Instead, Uncut.fm is where you will go to hear your "best of" moments: think of it like an Audio Gallery of Moments, a snackable version of your full episode, a series of illustrated audiograms that are also NFTs.
To that point: every Moment you create on Uncut will be automatically minted as an NFT (no more fretting over which ones to sell and which not.) Note: This doesn't preclude cutting your entire episode: you can certainly do that, and sell each of those moments as NFTs, but it's not necessary.
Each NFT that podcasters create on our platform can include specific utilities and rewards. Some of our podcasters want to offer classes, or bonus episodes, early episodes, Discord access, and some simply want to gift these NFTs to their most loyal listeners.
To get things kicked off and go over this all in more detail (visuals are so much more helpful!), we'll be hosting two Discord chats next week. Feel free to join us here!
More to come ASAP. Stay tuned! (And if you’re not a podcaster in residence, but interested in becoming one, let’s chat!)
